Advice & Guidance NVQ Level 4 Diploma

This qualification provides the necessary skills for those working or wishing to work in the Advice and Guidance sector.

The Level 4 Diploma supports those in a role which involves providing specialist advice and guidance to clients, reporting to senior management, networking with associated services as well as negotiating, training, evaluating and developing the service provision.

The qualification provides the knowledge required to work with legislative and procedural frameworks, understanding and promoting careers education guidance within organisations and working with other services through negotiation, liaison and referral.

Designed for those working in advice and guidance settings, full or part-time workers, paid and voluntary, permanent or temporary, as well as day and night workers.

Entry requirements

No formal entry requirements for learners undertaking this qualification, however learners must have the potential and opportunity to gain evidence for the qualification in the workplace. The qualification is not approved for those under 18 years of age.

Course content

The Level 4 Diploma consists of 5 mandatory and 3-7 optional units. The mandatory units are:

  • Develop interactions with advice and guidance clients
  • Manage personal case load
  • Evaluate and develop own contribution to the service
  • Operate within networks
  • Understand importance of legislation and procedures

Assessment methods

The majority of assessment for this competence based qualification will take place in the workplace under real work conditions, using observations by a qualified assessor and/or testimony from an Expert Witness. This will be evidenced in a portfolio or e-portfolio.

Further study and career options

Learners achieving Level 4 in Advice and Guidance may progress into teaching or specialist areas such as counselling, mediation, careers guidance, community development and financial advice.
