Plumbing Advanced (Level 3)

This study programme will provide you with the knowledge and theory you need to work in the plumbing industry.

Jason

I wanted a practical, hands-on job and Plumbing seemed like a really good option.  I like all the practical aspects of the course, such as having to design and then build an unvented air cupboard.

I’m the only girl on the course, but it’s not been a problem for me. Everyone treats you like a young adult at College and most people are there because they want to be there, so the atmosphere is much better than at school.

The tutors know what they’re talking about because a lot of them have been working in the plumbing industry for a long time, so they’re not just teaching you from a text book, but adding their own experiences to the lessons.

We’re based at the Gas & Plumbing Technology Centre and the facilities are very good.  We have workshops that include airing cupboard spaces, a steel pipe area, an unvented hot water training area and an integrated gas assessment centre.  We’ve also got all the equipment we need such as gas cookers, fires, boilers, heaters and other domestic appliances.

I’ve learnt a good trade and I definitely think my time has been well spent here.  In fact, I’d like to stay on at College and study for a Foundation Degree in Building Services, as my long term plan is to become a Building Design Consultant.
