Nail Technology Advanced (Level 3) (Cancelled)

This study programme will equip you with the skills and knowledge to work in the nail industry as an advanced and highly trained nail technician. You will study all three nail extension systems (acrylic, UV gel and fibreglass/silk wrap) as well as advanced techniques in airbrush nail art design.

Entry requirements

To start you will need four GSCEs at grade A*-C (including English), or a Level 2 qualification in either Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy. Mature students applying for the course will be interviewed, and other work-based qualifications may be taken into account. Entry will also be subject to a successful interview. You will undertake a skills assessment to determine the support you will need to be successful on your study programme.

Course content

During the programme you will study: (manicure treatments if not already studied), nail extensions in acrylic and UV gel, as well as fibreglass and silk wrap systems. Nail extensions using advanced sculpting techniques will also be covered, alongside nail art and airbrush nail designs.

    • Health and safety practices in the salon
    • Client care and communication
    • Promoting and selling products and services to clients
    • Applying and maintaining nail enhancements
    • Airbrush design for nails
    • Designing and applying nail art
    • Nail enhancements and advanced hand and nail art techniques
    • Creating an image based on a theme
    • Salon reception duties
  • English and maths:
    If you don't already have GCSE English and maths grade A*-C, we will work with you to help you develop your maths and English skills. 
  • Work experience
  • Personal development skills, study skills and employability skills 
  • Additional vocational learning and qualifications: 
    • Trips, work placements and extracurricular activities will include a BROOKS nail competition, international nail competitions, a beauty exhibition and salon work experience. This can incur transport costs at around £15 for coach fees.

Assessment methods

Assessment will take place on clients in the BROOKS salon, working under City & Guilds performance criteria. Each unit of study will have practical and theory assessment, which will be undertaken when delivery of the module is complete. Theory assessments will consist of online end of unit tests.

Further study and career options

On successful completion of this study programme you can go into employment in a variety of areas, such as nail bars, self-employment, beauty/hair salons, cruise ships, or working internationally.

Additional information

To take part in this study programme you will be required to pay for your uniform (£47.00), a nail technology kit (£223.00) and a course textbook (£25.00). You may also be required to pay for trips/visits.

Funding information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses are still free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification. If you’re over 23 or studying a second Level 3 qualification, you will need to pay a fee. Find out more on our financial support page at
