Nail Technology Intermediate (Level 2) (Cancelled)

This study programme is an introduction to nail technology. You will study the theory of nails, manicures and pedicures as well as UV gel nail extensions and learn how to conduct professional treatments in each. This programme is a work ready qualification to start a career as a nail technician. It is over one academic year and is a recognised and insurable qualification.

Entry requirements

You will need to hold 3 x GCSE grades at A* to D, one must be in English or a Level 1 Diploma in hairdressing or beauty therapy.

Course content

You will focus on nail treatments including manicure, pedicure, nail art and UV gel nail extensions, as well as health & safety in the salon and salon reception duties.

  • English and maths:
    If you don't already have GCSE English and maths grade A*-C, we will work with you to help you develop your maths and English skills. 
  • Work experience
  • Personal development skills, study skills and employability skills 
  • Additional vocational learning and qualifications: 
    • As part of your programme you will also have the opportunity to visit a beauty exhibition at the ExCeL in London.
    • To enhance your skills you will study make-up application to complement your nail treatments, which is ideal for wedding packages.


Assessment methods

You will be assessed by carrying out treatments on clients in a realistic salon environment at BROOKS. You will have end of unit (theory) tests taken on a computer. There is an opportunity to gain a pass, merit or distinction in the practical assessments.

Further study and career options

This study programme could lead to a second year of study where you would gain the Level 3 (Advanced Level) Certificate or Diploma in Nail Enhancements to advance your skills with liquid and powder and fibreglass enhancement systems. Each course will lead to employment either in a salon or as a self-employed nail technician. Your course tutors will advise on your best progression route during your study programme.

Additional information

You will need to purchase a kit, uniform and textbook (through the College), these will be explained and more detail given during your information session/interview.

Funding information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses are still free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification.
