Hairdressing City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 Diploma

This highly creative course is ideal for practising hairdressers, and covers all aspects of hairdressing, from haircutting skills and techniques to advising clients.

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for experienced hairdressers, employed within the hairdressing industry, who wish to further their career. You will need to have an NVQ Level 2, or up to five years salon experience as a junior stylist. If you are over 21, you may gain entry to the course subject to a successful interview, and will be considered individually on your experience rather than your qualifications. All applicants are required to attend an interview.

All candidates will be required to take part in an interview. All candidates will need to provide details of having a minimum of 16 hours salon based work. This must be achieved each week whilst on the programme. Junior duties will not be sufficient for the course. Employment as a junior stylist is required. 

Course content

During the course you will cover a range of topics, including:

  • Client consultation
  • Cutting women's hair creatively
  • Creative styling
  • Creative colouring
  • Creative hairdressing design
  • Men's hair cutting 

Assessment methods

Assessment is continuous. Theoretical knowledge is assessed by external online multiple choice tasks.

Further study and career options

On successful completion you can progress onto employment in the hairdressing industry, such as working in a salon, teaching and training others in this field, setting up your own salon, working on a cruise liner as a manufacturer's technician/demonstrator.

Additional information

During this course you will need to attend College for one a day a week. 

You have the option to purchase additional tools and a Level 3 text book, approximately £120-124. 

  • Hair kit - scissors and razor - £107
  • Hair uniform - £40 
  • 2 x Level 3 specialised head blocks - £150
  • 1 x male head block - £45
  • Salon International exhibition - approx. £25 

All students are required to wear the designated uniform and follow professional codes of appearance and conduct. Students will be working on female models and blocks.
