Beauty Consultancy Services Intermediate (Level 2)

This course is for those wishing to study the first levels of make-up and beauty therapy. You will gain the skills and knowledge to form the basis to a career in beauty therapy or make-up artistry. The course is comprised of a two year programme where you will study make-up and brow treatments, as well as skincare and facial treatments in year one. The second year will be comprised of a full Level 2 Diploma in either Beauty Therapy or Hair & Media Make-up.

Entry requirements

You will need to show evidence of working at GCSE level. You should also be creative, enthusiastic, able to work within a time frame, good at timekeeping and have good communication techniques.

Course content

The course focuses on preparation for work into the make-up and beauty industry. You will gain confidence with client care and communication working on clients in our well-equipped salons. The course includes the theory of the products and techniques used as well as anatomy and physiology of the skin.

You will study a range of units during the course including:

  • Health & Safety
  • Client care and communication
  • Working in the beauty related industry
  • Apply make-up
  • Facials and skincare
  • Shaping & colouring brows
  • Nail art
  • Gel nail varnish application
  • Create an image based on a theme (hair & beauty show)
  • Leg waxing (beauty)
  • Styling and dressing hair (media make-up)

Assessment methods

You will be assessed working on clients in Brooks’ High Street Salon. Theory assessments are via online multiple choice exams set and marked by City & Guilds.

Further study and career options

This is year one of a two year programme studying a full Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy or Hair & Media Make-up. Following this programme of study you could work as a self-employed therapist/make-up artist or continue to advance your skills on a Level 3 programme.

Additional information

Throughout your course you will be required to pay a fee of £50 for your uniform as well as £15 for any trips which you go on during your course. You will also have to pay a fee of £8- for other materials needed for your course.

Funding information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses are still free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification. If you’re over 23 or studying a second Level 3 qualification, you will need to pay a fee. Find out more on our financial support page at
