Floristry NPTC Level 2 Diploma

This course has been developed to focus on the education and training of people who want to work in the floristry industry. It will give learners the fundamental skills required to create beautiful floral designs and to help run a successful business. The Level 2 Diploma in Floristry is designed to provide a springboard for learners to progress onto a level 3 course or to find work in the Floristry Industry. The course ensures that learners develop the vocational knowledge, understanding and skills that are required for employment in the floristry industry.

Entry requirements

You will need 4 GCSE’s A-E (Including Maths, English and Science) OR an equivalent Level 1 qualification supported by good references.

If you are a mature student without GCSE results you will need to arrange an interview so that we can assess your current skills level and support needs.

Course content

This course provides a foundation for any potential florists. It incorporates elements of the principal techniques used in floristry whilst developing learners understanding of creative and business skills. 

During the course you will cover ten of the following units:

  • Art and design for florists
  • Identify, check and monitor the quality of incoming cut
  • Identify and maintain the condition of plants and planted designs
  • Plan, prepare and construct tied floristry designs
  • Plan, prepare and construct funeral designs
  • Plan, prepare and construct floral arrangements
  • Plan, prepare and construct wedding designs with floral materials
  • Display of floristry goods
  • Introduction to working in the floristry industry
  • Introduction to function decorating using floral displays.

Students will have the opportunity to visit floristry events, flower markets and take part in competitions. Learners will also have the opportunity to develop their skills in commercial work.

Assessment methods

Assessment is continuous on the course. A variety of methods of assessment will be used, including presentation, case studies, portfolios and practical assessments.

Further study and career options

You can progress on to a level 3 course or to employment in the Floristry industry.

There will be an additional cost of £540 for materials. Learners may be able to claim support towards this cost. Please contact the college admin team for more information.

Funding information

This course could be free! You will be eligible if you are aged 19-24 on the 31st August of the year you are starting your course and are actively seeking employment and in receipt of a means tested benefit (such as job seekers, housing benefit, council tax benefit). Please note you will need to be able to produce evidence of the benefit in your name when you come to enrol.
