English and Maths Summer School

Need to improve your English? Would you like to be able to help your kids with their homework? Need Level 2 English as an entry requirement for further studies or QTLS? Do you just want to 'Brush Up' your skills? This course develops your comprehension, spelling and writing skills to improve your job prospects and prepare you for further study.

Need to improve your Maths? Would you like to be able to help your kids with their homework and learn the latest teaching methods they encounter? Need Level 2 Maths as an entry requirement for further studies? Do you just want to brush up your skills? These courses allow you to work towards one of the five levels to improve your job prospects and prepare for further study (there are three entry Levels plus Level 1 and Level 2.)

English Summer School

Please note: This is an intensive course. You need to be able to commit to attending EVERY day for two weeks.

To be accepted onto the course, your initial assessments need to show that you are working at Level 1 or Level 2.

The focus of the English Summer School is to develop the language skills of people who speak English as their first/home language. If English is not your first language, please refer to our ESOL courses.

The courses are free to UK and EU residents. You will only have to pay a £30 resource fee.

Entry requirements

You do not need any qualifications to start this course; however you must be 19 or over, a UK/EEA citizen and have a minimum Level 1 ability in spoken English. You will be asked to attend a short informal interview and undertake a free assessment before your course starts to help determine your existing skill level.

Please note that the focus of this course is to develop the language skills of people who speak English as their first/home language. If English is not your first language, please refer to our ESOL courses.

Course content

English Summer School

During the course you will cover topics including:

  • Reading
  • Punctuation
  • Comprehension
  • Spelling
  • Grammar

Maths Summer School

During the course you will cover topics including:

  • Number
  • Shape and Space
  • Handling Data
  • Measurement

Assessment methods

Depending upon the level at which you study, you will be entered for a Edexcel Functional Skills qualification at Level 1 or Level 2.

Additional information

You must be able to commit to attending ever day of the two-week course, between 10.00am-1.00pm. You will need to pay a £30 resources fee to enrol on the course.
