Electrical Installation City & Guilds 7202 Level 1 Certificate (evening)
An introduction to the skills to carry out a range of electrical installation activities needed to start work in the industry. Units of study will include an introduction to all types of circuits, comprising the theory and regulations behind it. This course requires attendance for two evenings a week set over two years; both years of the course must be completed to achieve the qualification. This course is designed to give students the required level of understanding and underpinning knowledge to advance onto the Level 3 qualification, on the path to ultimately become a qualified electrician.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, though you will need to have good numeracy and literacy skills, along with a strong interest in being an electrician. Entry to the course will be subject to a successful interview.
Course content
This course offers learners both practical and theoretical insights into the electrotechnical field of expertise. The practical aspect is covered by carrying out various types of electrical installations initially on boards, progressing onto real size as your ability increases, while the theoretical side is covered in a classroom environment. There is approximately a 50% split between practical and theory.

This technical qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and practical skills needed for working in the electrotechnical industry, which will prepare you to enter an electrotechnical apprenticeship programme or progress onto a Level 3 Electrical Installation course.
Additional information
To take part in this course you will need steel toe footwear for practical sessions; you will also need to provide your own note-taking equipment and a scientific calculator. The cost of all materials used in practical lessons is included in the enrolment.
Pay by instalments
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
