Painting & Decorating Advanced (Level 3)

This study programme will give you the confidence to manage small projects and provide you with the skills needed to decorate complex surfaces, whether with paint, paper or metal leaf. The study programme will involve more research than tuition, so you will be expected to solve problems and manage your own learning to meet the programme requirements.

To begin this study programme you will need... 

Duration: 1 Year

  • Painting & Decorating Level 2 Diploma with Functional Skills 

Course content

This study programme will provide you with advanced key knowledge and skills required for entering the Painting and Decorating industry, giving you the confidence to tackle a number of differing decorating projects and Health & Safety guidelines to complete all tasks safely. Other elements of this study programme include tutorial sessions, trips & visits, work experience, short courses/enhancement and English and/or Mathematics sessions (as/if required).

For this one year course, you will focus on various wall and ceiling coverings, including anaglypta, blown vinyl and vinyl papers as well as wide vinyl, lincrusta and flock coverings. You will also learn about further advanced decorative techniques in the mediums of wood graining, marbling, stencilling and a variety of other broken colour techniques by using paints, papers or metal leaf. You will undertake the application of coving and ceiling centrepieces and stock maintenance/ordering tasks.

The programme involves more research than tuition, so you will be expected to solve problems and manage your own learning to meet the course requirements.
  • English and maths:
    If you don't already have GCSE English and maths grade A*-C, we will work with you to help you develop your maths and English skills. 
  • Work experience
  • Personal development skills, study skills and employability skills 
  • Additional vocational learning and qualifications


Assessment methods

You will be assessed via a practical test at the end of the training period. There will also be an online knowledge assessment.

Qualifications

Painting & Decorating NOCN CSkills Level 3 Diploma

Plus:

  • Health, Safety and Environment (CSCS) Card
  • English and maths qualifications if required



Further study and career options

Further study could be through our Construction Advanced Level 3 study programme to pursue a career in Construction Management. You could also apply for our Construction BTEC HNC/HND (entry is subject to a successful interview). You can progress on to gain an apprenticeship or move into employment as a Decorator.​

Additional information

To take part in this study programme you will be required to pay for:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), approximately £30
  • Textbooks, approximately £20
  • You will also be required to pay approximately £40 to take a CSCS test. This will allow you to complete the mandatory 30 hours’ work experience required as part of this study programme
Funding information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses are still free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification. If you’re over 23 or studying a second Level 3 qualification, you will need to pay a fee. Find out more on our financial support page at www.bedford.ac.uk/finance

If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Find out more at www.bedford.ac.uk/loans. You can also pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
