Construction (Civil Engineering) BTEC HNC (part-time)
The course is ideal for those wishing to progress within the civil engineering industry as it is designed to help develop a solid understanding of various civil engineering subjects within construction. You will gain the underpinning knowledge of the science, design principles and site procedures of civil engineering.
Entry requirements
You will need:
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Construction,
Civil Engineering or Building Services
- Equivalent related qualification.
We welcome applications from mature students via a successful interview, and a demonstration of vocational experience if they do not meet the criteria stated.

- Design Principles
- Science & Materials
- Applied Mathematics
- Site Surveying
- Engineering Geology & Soil Mechanics
- Civil Engineering Technology
- Structural Analysis and Design.
As part of your course, there will be various site visits applicable to civil engineering and talks/presentations by employers. You will also be able to study the CSCS Health, Safety & Environment test.
Assessment methods
Written and practical assignments and project work.

Further study and career options
This course will provide you with a range of career opportunities within civil engineering and the construction industry. You can also progress onto the Civil Engineering HND, or a construction-related Foundation Degree.

Pay by instalments
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
