Leadership for Health & Social Care and Children & Young People's Services Skillsfirst Level 5 Diploma
This qualification is for people who work as managers in children and young peoples services. It will guide and assess development of knowledge and understanding and skills in management practice. Candidates will work in residential services for children, adoption and fostering services and community based services.
A flexible programme with workplace delivery and a requirement to attend college for one session a week for further support and development.
Entry requirements
NVQ 3 in Health and Social care/childcare or youth work is desirable.
Course content
Learners must achieve 80 credits to complete the qualification over a 2 year period. Learners will enhance their management skills and develop strategies in communications of policies and procedures within the care sector.

- Develop an implement policies and procedures
- Professional development
- Champion equality and diversity
- Communications
- Health and safety and risk management.
There is a catalogue of optional units to chose from according to the individual work experience and career pathway.
Assessment methods
Written evidence and direct observation from allocated assessor.
Further study and career options
Foundation Degree in Health & Social Care or Foundation Degree in Child & Adolescent Studies. This qualification is recognised as acceptance as entry requirements for a number of HEI programmes.
