Health & Social Care BTEC HND


Our Health & Social Care HND will equip you with the knowledge, understanding, training and skills that are essential for finding employment in the health and social care sector. The course has been approved and reviewed by the sector skills for care and is recognised as high level vocational and work related qualifications.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 1 A-Level or 2 AS-Levels OR
  • Access to Higher Education Certificate OR
  • Significant experience of working in Health and Social Care OR
  • Health & Social Care Level 3 qualification, AND
  • GCSE English grade C or above (or equivalent).

We welcome applications from mature students who will be considered individually on experience rather than qualifications. You will also need to undertake a paid or voluntary placement in a relevant setting for the duration of the course, 200 hours per year. You will be responsible for arranging your own placement and this is an essential part of any offer made.

Course content

At Level 5 mandatory units are:

  • Communication in Health and Social Care Organisations
  • Principles of Health and Social Care Practice
  • Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care
  • Research Project

You will need to be able to demonstrate skills of independent study and analytical writing. A range of optional units will also be studied at no extra cost.

Assessment methods

Written assessments, presentations, reflective journals.

Further study and career options

On achieving the HND you will be able to progress onto a BA Honours Degree. Alternatively you could seek work in the Health & Social Care and related sectors.

Additional information

This course runs on Mondays, 9.30am-4.45pm. It is preferred that you have a relevant work experience placement.
