Team Leader/Supervisor Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3

This apprenticeship is suitable if you are at the start of your career and wish to become a team leader/supervisor. Alternatively you may already be an aspiring or existing manager who has developed practical experience but wish to develop your theoretical understanding of management skills further. The apprenticeship includes work-based learning, business education (where the CMI Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management is incorporated) and the opportunity for membership of the Chartered Management Institute on completion of the apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

Grade requirements: You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grades A-C or 9-4, or equivalent.

Other requirements: Apprentices without Level 2 English and mathematics will need to achieve this prior to taking the end point assessment.

Course content

Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management consists of the following units:

  • Personal development as a first line manager
  • Resource planning
  • Meeting stakeholder needs
  • Managing and communicating information
  • Identifying development opportunities
  • Management communication
  • Being a leader

Assessment methods

Assignments for CMI Diploma

  • Portfolio of evidence of knowledge and demonstration of skills and behaviours

End point assessment will include:

  • Knowledge test, Competency based interview and professional discussion relating to CPD log
  • Examination for English and Maths Level 2 if required


You will gain the following qualifications:

CMI Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management

Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship Level 3


  • Functional Skills in English and maths Level 2 (if required)

Further study and career options

Further study: When in an appropriate role you could progress to an Apprenticeship for Operations/Departmental Manager. Alternative standalone qualifications may include Certificate/Diploma in HR Practice or HR Management, Certificate/Diploma in Management and Leadership or HNC/HND Business.

Future careers: On completion, you may choose to register as an Associate Member with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership & Management, to support your professional career development and progression.

Next steps

To be eligible for an apprenticeship you must either be employed on a full-time contract by an employer willing to support your training or have an offer of employment as an apprentice. Bedford College can help you find a job role with an employer if you don’t already have one.
