CIPD Foundation Certificate in People Practice

The course will provide you with the fundamental knowledge and skills as well as the confidence you need to effectively launch your Human Resource or Learner and Development career, and for those working in a support role and wishing to develop their knowledge and skills.

You will learn about the foundations for people practice and gain valuable, real world insights into the key functions of people professionals in the organisation and how they shape contemporary culture.

Entry requirements

You will need to be able to demonstrate and use good written and verbal communication skills as well as basic IT skills, particularly use of word, spreadsheet and presentation packages. Ideally students will hold GCSEs including English GCSE (full qualification) minimum Grade 4 or grade C. If your first language is not English, learners should have a minimum of ESOL Level 2 (or equivalent).

Course content

The four modules are:

  • Essentials of People Practice
  • Core Behaviours for People Professionals
  • Business, Culture and Change in Context
  • Principles of Analytics

Assessment methods

Assessment is through assignments for each module.

Further study and career options

Completion of this course would improve job prospects and earning potential. If in a HR role or a Line Manager, you may progress to the CIPD Associate Diploma in People Management.

Additional information

Once you have enrolled for a qualification, you will join the CIPD as a Student Member and you will need to remain in membership for the duration of your studies. When you complete your qualification, you’ll be awarded CIPD Foundation Membership, and the designation “Foundation CIPD” after your name. This starts to build your credibility in the people profession, shows you’re serious about your development and that you have a strong base of knowledge to build on. Learners will need a laptop/desktop with access to the internet. You may wish to purchase a CIPD publication written for the course, however, there are some available in the college library.

Funding information

Pay by instalments

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
