Business Administration City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate

This Level 2 course aims to meet the needs of the young or adult learner wishing to work (or already working) in an administrative support role. The course will allow you to develop essential knowledge of how to carry out everyday and more complex administrative tasks, such as managing information and supporting events. Entry requirements

To begin this course you will need a minimum of two GCSEs at grade D or above, including English; or alternatively, a Level 1 Business qualification and/or appropriate work experience. You will also need a sound grasp of basic IT skills. Key Skills in Literacy, Functional Skills in English, Basic Skills/Adult Literacy and ESOL Level 2 qualifications can be accepted as an alternative to a GCSE in English.

Course content

During this course you will study a range of topics, including:

  • Personal responsibilities and working in a business environment
  • Providing administrative services
  • Managing information and producing documents
  • Supporting business events
  • Maintaining stationery stock.

You may also study at the Bedford, Rushden or Luton Learning Centre to develop your IT skills and gain a qualification.

Assessment methods

You will study through a variety of teaching methods to accommodate a range of learning styles. You will be assessed through a mixture of written examinations and multiple choice examinations.

Further study and career options

After successfully completing this course you may choose to pursue a career as an office administrator, or you could progress on to the Business Administration Level 3 Certificate. Alternatively, you could work and study by completing our Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration, provided you are employed in an appropriate role.

Additional information

Please note that this course is currently under review for 2015-16 and is subject to change.

This course is part-time and runs from September to June, with attendance being one day per week from 9.15am-12.30pm. You will be expected to complete approximately four hours of independent study a week, some of which will be homework and/or revision. You will be required to provide your own equipment, which will include folders, notebooks, pens and pencils. A USB is also recommended to save your work.
