Transporting Animals by Road (Short Journeys) Level 2 Award

This course is essential if you transport cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, equidae or birds for road journeys over 65km on short road journeys (up to and including, eight hours). This Award is applicable to you as a driver or attendant using road vehicles for transporting live vertebrate animals in connection with an economic activity and market including assembly centre staff handling animals.

No formal qualifications are required.

Course content

You will study:

  • Legal requirements and responsibilities
  • Planning a short journey by road
  • Suitability of the vehicle
  • Checking animals and fitness to travel
  • Causes and signs of stress in animals
  • Space allowances, stocking densities and segregation requirements
  • Handling and animal welfare in transit
  • Post journey requirements

Assessment methods

There is a one hour online assessment.

Additional information

The course tuition cost of £146 includes your registration with the awarding body. Overalls and safety boots are essential.
