Spring into jobs with Bedford College

Monday 9 March 2015

Bedford College has extended the national Careers Week and Apprenticeship Week into a full season of “employability” activity to help young people “spring” towards jobs.

Companies from a wide range of industry sectors have been invited to a variety of events to give meet students and give them an insight to the world of work.

The in-College Careers Service is available all year, across all departments and to 1,000s of full and part-students students. And the in-house Job Shop encourages employers to think first of Bedford College students before advertising a post.

Among the Spring activities are:

*A Barclays initiative “Prepare for Work” to help develop employability skills. For this key students have been selected as Ambassadors to share the news.

*A Care, Childcare & Youthwork Speed Dating session with 20 employers.

Care, Childcare & Youthwork Assistant Director Karen Campbell said: “Our week-long progression event involved students from Level 1 to HE. Students were given the chance to integrate into the next level to help them identify how the courses differ.

“This was further complemented by the employer event on Wednesday March 4th. A diverse range of employers as well as HE progression opportunities were demonstrated in a speed dating event. Students could identify employment opportunities within the professions. This also proved an exciting and motivating opportunity for employers to network with each other.”

*An evening Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony and daytime exhibition involving big name employers who work with Bedford College. They were introduced to young people at the Harpur Suite who were keen to hear about a way to earn and learn.

*A major construction industry showcase on May 19th where young people will be encouraged to consider careers as estimators, architects, design & build co-ordinators, structural engineers and surveyors and more. This will showcase a live construction which is the new LLDD building alongside the St Mary’s Street border of the Cauldwell Street campus. This will be open from 2pm – 8pm for all-comers.
