Fast track with Mercedes

Bedford College engineering students are in the fast lane when it comes to jobs with Mercedes AMG High Performance Power Trains (HPP) and Formula One technology.

Stuart Boyer, Employee Development Manager at HPP in Brixworth, Northants gave students some valuable advice about securing a career with one of the most exciting companies in the world.

At a special presentation and awards ceremony, Stuart explained there were a range of apprenticeships on offer with the F1 racing world champions.

“You could be working with cutting edge technology helping to keep us on the top step of the winner’s podium,” said Stuart.

Bedford College Personal Tutor Bethany Coles said: “These are Level 3 first year students who are committed to a career in engineering and with Bedford College have the chance to meet the biggest and best employers.

“A former student Adam Brown who now works with HPP has visited here since starting his apprenticeship to explain more about how exciting it is to be part of a winning team. It was great for students to hear from him.”

Student of the Year runner-up was Matt Clarke, 21, of Milton Keynes, has been offered an electrical engineering apprenticeship at another top employer Lockheed Martin at Ampthill, Beds.

The Student of the Year Award, sponsored by HPP, was awarded at the event on Friday June 19th.  The winner received a £500 cheque, a valuable week’s work experience at the Northampton-based company and a guaranteed an interview for an apprenticeship. The 2015 winner was Niall Barnaville, 18, of Bletsoe, Beds.
