Cup-winning football

AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College won the Britannia Cup for the first time in their 25 year history.

In front of a crowd of over 300 people at AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College overcame their opponents Wilstead to lift the prestigious cup.

The evening was kicked off with some mini-soccer games, staged by members of AFC Kempston Rovers Colts, and the same players were mascots to the AFC Kempston Town and Bedford College players as they made their way onto the pitch.

Once the large crowd had settled, it was time for the main event.  With AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Town having the majority of the play in the first half, the game was still 0-0 at half time.  In the second half, AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College came out all guns blazing, and were rewarded with a goal when local boy Ryan Smith smashed the ball in from a corner.  The game then became a much tighter affair with very few opportunities, with AFC Kempston Town and Bedford College holding out until the final whistle.

The club would like to say a massive congratulations to the managers John Guiney and Raj Mandal, and to all the players involved with the club over the season.  We would also like to say a massive thank you to our main sponsor A L & G Abbotts, because without their very generous support, the club would not be where we are today.  If any other local businesses are interested in getting involved with your local team, please call Club Chairman Gary Ingerson on 07800 864040 or email

The club has started pre-season training every Tuesday and Thursday. Next year it will be have three adult teams on a Saturday, and an Under 18's on a Sunday.  With a signing-on fee of just £40 and no weekly subscriptions, we really feel we are offering affordable football to everyone.

*AFC Kempston has been supported by Bedford College which has enabled investment in an all weather-pitch.
