World Class Education for Bedford

Thursday 3 December 2015

Academic, Apprenticeships and Higher Education studies on offer at Bedford College now make it the most important education provider in the region, heard hundreds at the Bedford Corn Exchange on Wednesday 2 December.

At the annual Achievements Ceremony, Principal and CEO Ian Pryce outlined how Bedford College educates young people:

  • It sends more young people on to university than Sharnbrook Upper and the Harpur Trust combined.
  • Where school sixth forms teach up to A-Level (Level 3), Bedford College staff teach up to degree level.
  • It is one of only three secondary institutions that have maintained Ofsted Outstanding or Good for 15 years.
  • It is the biggest provider of Apprenticeships in the region.

“So we can claim to be consistently, the biggest and the best,” added Ian.

Links with employers continues to be a strength of the College.

“We are blessed with enlightened employers who recognised the need to invest in their young people. They help us develop the right curriculum and right skills and we have acknowledged our relationship with record sponsorship of our awards tonight,” said Ian.

Star speaker on the evening was the energetic Kamal Hyman selected as National Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 by TV tycoon Peter Jones CBE. He urged young people to “Aim A Little Higher”.

Student of the Year Award went to Euan J Davies who, after achieving his BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Production Arts, has won a place at the world-famous RADA in London.

Runners-up were Katherine Barnard who has secured her dream job instructing at Grafham Water after studying at Shuttleworth College and Henna Begum who meets celebrities on a daily basis at Signature Aviation after completing her BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Travel & Tourism.

Chair of Bedford College Governors Kevin Bromboszcz concluded:

“We are producing world class talent, world class skills and allowing local people to achieve their big dreams - whether it is winning a place at RADA, collecting design industry ‘Oscars’ or securing a computing place in a World Skills event overseas.”

“I would like to congratulate all our prize winners tonight for their world-class performances.”
