Bedford College and Hastingsbury

Tuesday 21 October 2014

Hastingsbury Upper School and Community College will convert to an Academy in partnership with Bedford College.

Principal and CEO of Bedford College Ian Pryce CBE, expresses his delight at the partnership: “This is the right thing for Kempston, and the governors of Hastingsbury deserve praise for having the vision to create something special. The College can provide Hastingsbury with financial security and a broader curriculum offer.  In return the College can draw on the expertise of Hastingsbury in providing secondary education, which will greatly help the development of our Technical Academy in 2016.  It will mean more choice for local parents, pupils and the community.  We are really pleased with the support being given by the Borough Council which is crucial to the success of the partnership.”

Martin Fletcher, Head teacher at Hastingsbury Upper School and Community College, said: “Hastingsbury Governors and I are excited by the prospect of working more closely with Bedford College and with the other institutions within the Bedford College Academies Trust. We have always passionately believed in the power of partnership working and welcome the opportunities that our membership of this Trust will bring. This new relationship will allow current and future generations of Kempston students access to an exciting academic, technical and vocational curriculum with pathways from entry year through to the Sixth form.”

Cllr Henry Vann, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council said: “Both organisations have strong sixth form academic provision, and governing bodies passionate about improving the lives of young people in our community. We look forward to working with the partnership as it seeks to create something special for Kempston."
