Adult Learners' Week winners

Thursday 26 June 2014

Hosted at Shuttleworth College, part of Bedford College, the events saw Center Parcs Woburn Forest General Manager Wayne Matton present the prizes.

He explained that the Bedfordshire venue had 1,500 staff who were on 450 different training courses to cover all aspects of service and supply at the village. Recognising the value of training meant he was pleased to be invited to the awards ceremony.

Louise Roberts and Lorraine Castle both completed IT training at the Bedford Learning Centre as part of their success stories.

Louise won the ESF Achiever of the Year having been nominated by BPHA. She signed up to the ESF Community Employment Support programme as a single, unemployed parent. She undertook various courses – including one at Shuttleworth College before eventually winning a job as a manager of cleaning staff at Knebworth Park.

Lorraine won the Family Learning award having been nominated by BPHA. To help her son she signed up to Keys to Learning, a project to raise children’s educational achievements. Now she is working on further IT qualifications for herself.

They are both photographed with Wayne Matton and Gina Bubbins who leads the Bedford College Business Development Team looking after customers like Vauxhall, Lockheed Martin and 100s more.

Bedford College provides education in three counties with venues in Milton Keynes and Rushden as well as across Bedfordshire. It has recently announced sponsored of the University Technical College UTC at Houghton Regis.

The Awards were held on Thursday June 19th and were staged by The Learning Partnership, Bedfordshire and Luton Ltd.
