Getting back into training can be daunting – but at Rushden Learning Centre the friendly team have been helping 100s into IT and new jobs.

At the end of year 2013 awards evening, many were presented with their certificates by the Mayor of Rushden, David Jenney and the Deputy CEO of Bedford College, David Pridmore.  Bedford College has a range of Learning Centres, run in association with Bright Learning Solutions, which welcome people of all ages to work towards nationally recognised qualifications which can be free or very cost effective.

Karen Utton was a business student of Bedford College two decades ago then retrained as carpenter then became a site supervisor, but after an illness decided to train yet again and visited Rushden Learning Centre to upgrade her IT skills.

“I cannot speak highly enough of the Learning Centre. They are so helpful in every way. They have rebuilt my confidence,” said Karen of Stanwick.

Steve Trafford was made redundant at 60 and, having never been out of work, decided to set up his own business. On the advice of some associates he went along to Rushden Learning Centre and now his business is booming. Among his Health & Safety clients is the English National Opera. Singing the praises of the Learning Centre, Steve of Raunds said: “I had used a computer but was self-taught so coming here has made me more effective and efficient in my work.”

Inken Whitehouse re-trained in Sage for accounts to broaden her career prospects and moved from an administration job to a position with many more responsibilities in Oundle. She was able to fit in her training around her changing working commitments.

“I was recommended to come here by a friend and just popped along to an open day and saw for myself how friendly and helpful everyone was,” said Inken.

The Mayor of Rushden praised the learners and the Learning Centre for helping to keep people skilled and ready to work.
