Top jobs and awards for hospitality

The first ever “Caties” Award launched by Bedford College Hospitality and Catering team heard of top jobs and national competitions won by students.

Aimed at preparing young people for careers in the major industry, the teaching team is lead by industry professionals who know the challenges of a career in catering.

The emphasis is on preparing students for the work place with qualifications which range from Level 1 Hospitality and Catering Cake Decoration to Higher Education qualifications.

Among the prize winners at the event at the Bedford Corn Exchange on October 24th was Daniela Nocera, Hospitality and Catering Professional Cookery Level 2 Student of the Year. She has secured a 12 month work place with food industry giants Unilever at Colworth Park, Sharnbrook where she will be working with scientists.

Abbigail Smith won Student of the Year in the 14-16 year old Level 2 category. Now aged 15, Abigail won praise when she competed in the Future Chef national competition earlier this year.

It was announced by Assistant Director Mark Lewis, that key members  will be taking part in a national event at the NEC in Birmingham in November.

Bedford College Principal and CEO Ian Pryce CBE said: “Some of the biggest names in the hospitality world have visited Bedford College: Jamie Oliver, Aldo Zilli and John Christophe Novelli and we hope they will inspire some of our trained chefs.”

Business sponsors for the event included: Kitchenalia of Bedford, Russums catering clothing, Savona foods, Nisbets catering equipment, Eric the Butcher of Goldington and of Bedford.
