Bedford College students welcomed news of a boost for tourism business for the UK this week. Travel and Tourism trainees were interviewed on Anglia TV about their reaction to a boom in the business which is predicted to produce 1 in 3 of all new jobs.

The class members had just completed a fortnight of work experience with air, rail, hospitality and event companies and many had returned with job offers.

Bedford College is in the forefront of travel and tourism training in Bedfordshire with links with airlines such as Monarch based at Luton Airport and by offering students live action experience at its own hospitality and event centre: The Mansion House at Old Warden Park, home of Shuttleworth College.

Travel and Tourism students have been helping to promote the latest attraction to Bedford - the  "John Bunyan" river boat which will be launched this summer for day trippers and charter  - by designing leaflets for distribution via the Tourist Information Centre.

Lecturer Jennie Porter said: "We are delighted that our students are helping to put the travel and tourism industry in the spotlight and that in doing so they are creating great career opportunities for themselves."
