College CEO joins MPs, Mayor and "Movers and Shakers"

Government Minister Alistair Burt flew in from his Foreign Office duties to join Bedford and Kempston MP Richard Fuller and Bedford Borough Mayor Dave Hodgson at the biggest business breakfast event of 2013 in the town.

Staged at the Bedford Swan Hotel by the Business Beacon network group, the event attracted an audience of 70 key business people who asked questions from help with start-up businesses in the town centre to how a lack of broadband is restricting economic growth in rural areas.

The Question Time style event was chaired by Peter Mount, Partner of Woodfines Solicitors  who sponsored the event.

Bedford College CEO Ian Pryce CBE joined the BedfordBID (Business Improvement District) table together with BID Director Christina Rowe.

Afterwards Business Beacon organiser Ben von Broembsen said: "We had a great turn out of key people and the panel gave some valuable and informative answers. It was not party political, it was all about business."

Ben, who runs an IT support company Cirrus Tech Services Ltd, asked a question about when broadband services were going to be improved in rural areas. This prompted Alistair Burt MP to suggest that the panel worked together to bring BT before businesses in Bedfordshire to push along the programme. Ben is now considering a Business Beacon follow up event on this theme.
