Oliver, Public Services Level 2
“After hearing about the College from friends,
I decided to attend an Open Day where I was able to speak to
tutors. I want to become a fireman, and I find that my course is
great as it’s given me good preparation for working life. I enjoy
the outdoor activities such as camping, canoeing and rock climbing.
In the future I’m hoping to gain experience at Bedford’s Fire
Service, and to progress onto a Level 3 course.”
Tobias, BTEC ND in Sport
“I have been passionate about sport since I
was seven years old, and after school, decided to study at Bedford
College as its facilities far outshone that of the local
schools.”
“I find that the College provides a more adult
environment, where everybody is motivated and there’s a good team
ethic. I’ve always dreamt of being a professional athlete, but if
this doesn’t work out my other interest lies in Quantity
Surveying.”
Ben, Fitness Instructor Certificate Level 3 - Central YMCA
Qualifications
“I actually studied at the College previously,
gaining a BTEC ND and have progressed onto studying Law at
University. However, I’m now on a gap year, so decided to enrol on
a fitness instructor course to help find a job whilst at
University.”
“Bedford College has a great reputation in the
local area for Sport, and I’ve personally found the College very
welcoming. The course itself is relaxed, but there a high level of
knowledge and learning. The course is highly practical but is also
supported by a good range of theoretical study. After studying Law
at University I have plans to start up my own business, but a dream
of mine has always been to become a professional basketball
player!”
Jade, Outdoor Education National Diploma
“I left school at 16 to work in a bank, after
doing this for three years I decided that it wasn’t for me and that
I wanted to do something different – not behind a desk.”
“I looked on the internet at possible options
for me and I saw outdoor education which looked great! You might
think that there isn’t much to learn by canoeing and other physical
activities but the course also teaches us management skills and
other skills which are easily transferable between jobs.”
“My tutors are pretty inspirational and from
leaving school at 16 I now hope to go to university and then become
a senior outdoor activity instructor.”
Tom, Outdoor Education National Award
“I originally came to Shuttleworth for my work
experience at school. What I saw really impressed me, the courses
looked really interesting and it made me change my mind on my
future career.”
“I’m studying on the Outdoor Education
National Award which lets us try a great range of outdoor
activities, so far we have concentrated on canoeing and sailing and
we have orienteering coming up next. The practical side of things
is really good fun whilst the theory side (which is usually two
days a week) teaches me about the body and the benefits of working
in a team.”
“Next year I plan to study the National
Certificate in Outdoor Adventure which will develop my skills
further. Eventually I plan to find employment in the outdoor
industry.”
