Anthony ScottAnthony Scott

Assistant Director - Motor Vehicle

I started my career in the motor trade by doing a full apprenticeship with a Renault main dealer in Cambridge, specialising in vehicle body repair and paint. I subsequently worked for other main dealers and smaller independent garages until I started by first teaching job at Oaklands College in Hertfordshire. I then worked for a private training provider in North West London and ultimately I was responsible for running one of their Automotive Academies in Watford. From there I moved on to Cambridge Regional College as Deputy Head of the Engineering Department. I started with Bedford College in November 2010 where I have taken up the position of Assistant Director for Motor Vehicle.

I started my career in Motor Vehicle in a small rural garage where everything was repaired, from wheelbarrows, tractors all type of cars and heavy vehicles.  Then I moved on to work at the main Vauxhall Plant in Luton and from there the Engineering Dept at Millbrook Proving Ground and finally the Service Dept again based in Luton.  I started my teaching career at Luton College of Higher Education 1990, which was then renamed the University of Luton.  Barnfield College took over many Depts.  I have now worked at Bedford College for the past 3 ½ yrs.

Lecturer at Bedford College - Vehicle Technology Centre – has raced motorbikes and currently has son James taking part in motorbikes races.

Refinishing Lecturer

After completing a 5 year apprenticeship with VAG (Volkswagen Audi group) I continued working with the VAG Brands also Porsche and Mercedes for over 25 years, both as a Panel Beater and Spray Painter. 

Qualified in Paint Refinishing, Panel Beating (collision repair) and Motor cycle Mechanics. I started teaching at Bedford College in 2002.

A real petrol head, I practice what I preach, loving all aspects of motor vehicles and motorcycles.  I enjoy watching any motorsport and competed in AMCA Motocross in the 80s and 90s. Always got a project on the go... VW camper Van (Charlie Bus).

A few facts about me:

Lifelong passion for science and technology.

Apprenticed to Vauxhall Motors.

Graduated at Oxford.

Restored first motorcycles whilst still at school and later, a classic Range Rover.

25 years industrial experience within Research and Development.

Particular interest in New Technology and Electronics.

Previous teaching experience at Milton Keynes and Northampton.

Currently developing the Functional Skills programme and delivering automotive studies to School groups at Bedford College.

I did my apprenticeship with a Vauxhall dealership in Northampton. I then worked for Aston Martin as a painter then ran their Goods-in Department.  I have also worked for VW and Audi.

Advanced Practitioner

Cambridge Regional College

Lecturer in Motor Vehicle Engineering.  Responsible for course management for work based learning and BTEC programmes. Designed and delivered bespoke training in engine management and vehicle diagnostics to local industry. I was responsible for assessing and internally verifying work based apprenticeship training and was promoted to an academy manager. I taught theory and practical technology to level three full time and apprentice learners.

G&P Training Services

A private training provider. I was responsible for developing the apprentice training programme, and managed assessors to gather evidence in the work place. I managed the on and off the job training and was responsible for ensuring the apprentice learners completed all aspects of the training plan.

City of Westminster College

Advanced Practitioner in Motor Vehicle. My duties included teaching across a range of theory and practical subjects, including vehicle diagnostics to level three students. I developed the motor vehicle apprenticeship training and was responsible for improving the teaching and learning in the motor vehicle area. I helped to support new staff in innovative teaching methods.
