You will benefit from the strong links Bedford College has with
local businesses which will give you opportunities to gain
experience in real working environments. We also work with Lotus
and MG Sport & Racing Ltd to develop training in electric
powered vehicles and collaborate with Lunar Racing, a non-profit
making racing team which competes in professional motorsport and
uses young people to build, develop and maintain real cars.
Light up the track at Silverstone and Donington
In March 2009, 22 students from the Vehicle Training Centre
transformed a MG ZS road car into a high performance racing car for
the Britcar Championship. The student team came second in their
class, pitting themselves against adult teams in this professional
race series taking place across the country over 8 months, with the
final round in November at Donington, the new home of the British
F1 Grand Prix.
Exciting opportunities – work on racing cars!
Thanks to the manager of the Vehicle Training Centre, who owns
his own racing agency, motor vehicle students also have several
chances to work on motor sports cars for semi-professional racing
drivers.
Fully equipped Motor Vehicle Training Centre
The Vehicle Training Centre is fully kitted out with an MOT bay,
paint mix and spray rooms, and a body repair room – it is the
ultimate environment in which to learn if you are a budding
mechanic.
We’re ahead of the game – learning for the future
Sustainable technology and developments are incorporated into
mainstream training; Motor Vehicle students learn about electric
cars through their Key Skills assignments and we have recently
launched a bio-diesel production course. This means that you can be
sure that at College you will learn techniques that are likely to
become compulsory in the future.
A variety of vehicles and specialist equipment
The Vehicle Training Centre has an excellent range of vehicles,
including modern and inspirational CAN-Bus equipped motor vehicles,
three Ford KAs and a Fiesta, so that your skills are honed on a
assortment of different cars and bikes. This means that you will be
thoroughly prepared for the range of jobs you will encounter when
you begin work in the sector.
