Peter, Aerospace Engineering BTEC National Diploma
I have always been interested in aircraft and
I even managed to get work experience at school working on
restoring a WW2 plane. However I knew it would be hard to find a
course to turn my interest into a career. Nothing at sixth form was
going to be suitable and I eventually managed to find the BTEC ND
Aero NVQ course at Bedford College.
I have to travel for a total of 4 hours to get
to and from College every day but its definitely worth it as I get
to work on the College’s full sized aircraft! The facilities at
Bedford are outstanding, as well as working on the aircraft I also
use the Library which is always well stocked.
In the future I would be keen to work in the
RAF helping to maintain aircraft; if I couldn’t work there I would
probably look to work for a private airline.

“I originally decided to come to Bedford
College as it is close to home and it offered the specific training
I needed for my apprenticeship. Since studying at the College I
have been surprised at just how friendly everyone is! The tutors
are really helpful and have real industry knowledge and the whole
atmosphere is really relaxed – completely different to school.”
“I find my course challenging and there is a
good mix of practical and theory, giving me the knowledge to back
up what I do on a daily basis. I plan to study the HND next year
before moving onto degree level. Eventually I hope to work as a
maintenance or testing engineer.”
