Engineering
Introduction
Engineering is all about making things work. You could be
demolishing buildings, servicing DVD players, checking aircraft,
activating phonelines – and that’s just the start of a long list.
Around 1.5 million people work in engineering-related jobs in the
UK and opportunities, especially for those with a strong grasp of
new technology, are growing – and whether your specialism is
creating testers to identify faults or maintaining the generators
in a power station, you’ll need to be good with machines.
If you want to develop the skills you will
need for the engineering trade by working on a jet aeroplane engine
and fuselage or a helicopter engine, you will enjoy the hands-on
practical learning experience provided at College. We have a wide
range of engineering courses designed to equip you with a broad
base of engineering skills, as well as knowledge and experience of
the sector. You can specialise in aerospace, electrical and
electronic or mechanical engineering and there are apprenticeships
available in electrotechnical installation and engineering.
Depending on your specialist area, topics you
will cover could include radio communications, microcontrollers,
analogue and digital electronics, CAD, electronic circuits and
wiring and gas turbine engines and aircraft maintenance.
