Expert tutors
The vocational expertise of the teaching staff is exceptional.
You will benefit from tutors who have previously enjoyed careers as
nurses, health visitors, social workers, nursery nurses,
counsellors, care assistants, a nutritionist, a foster carer, child
minders, a midwife, a paramedic and prison officers. This will
enable you to draw on a huge range of real vocational experience
and learn best practice from individuals who have incredible
knowledge of the care sector.
Practical work experience
Many of our courses include practical experience in a working
environment and if you do not already have a placement, we will
help you find one. We have a dedicated work placement officer who
has secured placements for students at over 200 local employers,
demonstrating that you will be given all the support you need to
gain hands-on experience of the industry.
Flexible learning
Many of our courses will allow you to progress onto higher level
full-time study or combine further part-time study with employment
in the care sector, giving you the chance to structure your
learning to suit your individual needs.
Enrichment activities
The enrichment programme gives you the opportunity to
participate in activities such as Baby Massage, which will give you
additional skills, above and beyond what you will learn on your
course. These extra-curricular events will enhance your readiness
for work and student survey results state that 98% of students felt
they had gained skills that would relate to their employment.
Awards for vocational excellence
As a government accredited Centre of Vocational Excellence in
Health & Social Care we are recognised for delivering quality
vocational training in the care sector, so you can feel confident
that you will leave us ready to launch a successful career in your
chosen area.
Improve your confidence
In a recent survey of students, 95% said that they felt more
confident as a result of taking their course. This shows that our
students are able to go into higher education or employment with
the self-assurance necessary in an occupation that may present you
with challenging situations.
Progress to higher education
Last year, many of our Child Care students went on to higher
education, studying a range of subjects, including Primary
Education, Social Care, Adult Nursing and Childhood and Youth
Studies, at universities including Sheffield Hallam University, the
University of Northampton, the University of Bedfordshire,
Liverpool Hope University and Manchester Metropolitan University.
Our Health & Social Care students that chose to progress to
higher education pursued degree level study in subjects including
Occupational Therapy, Diagnostic Radiography, Mental Health Nursing
and Psychology with Counselling.
