Partnerships with Schools

Partnerships with SchoolsWe are working with local schools – including lower and middle - in a more varied and integrated way on all aspects of the school curricula. The extra provision is delivered either at Bedford College, Shuttleworth College or in schools by teaching staff, the Student Champions and Ellen.

It includes:

  • Assembly presentations on Further and Higher Education, sustainable technologies, careers, employment and apprenticeships.

  • Interactive Seminars - where young people experience a college student’s day, getting a real flavour for the curriculum they would cover if they chose a course in that department. As well as how this links to what they are presently studying in school.

  • Aspirational and inspirational workshops/assemblies, entitled Aim 4UR Future, delivered by both staff and students. Open to all ages, it focuses on personal goals, lifestyle choices, careers and employment.

  • Interactive workshops, entitled Challenging Stereotypes, which provide up-to-date information and education, broadening career options and dispelling myths.

  • Student Experience Days - these are arranged with staff and current students across the Colleges - prospective students shadow other students for a day and get an insight into the college environment and the chosen course.

  • 1-1 or small group targeted support workshops - motivating and re-engaging learners, so that they raise their expectations and fulfil their potential.

  • Information, advice and guidance is provided by Ellen, colleagues and students at Options’ Day/ Evenings, Careers Fairs and Parents/Carers school events.

  • The Schools Liaison’s electronic bulletin keep schools and other interested parties updated on the latest news.

  • Work experience placements are offered by both Bedford College and Shuttleworth College. These give young people the opportunity to learn about how our organisation functions, as well as allowing them to gain valuable workplace skills.
