'Sweetener' comes to town

Exhibition Open 17-27 March (11am-5pm Wed-Sat), BCA Gallery, 13 High Street, Bedford, MK42 1RN

'Sweetener' is an exhibition of work by staff and students from the Art, Design and media departments at Bedford College. Open from 17th to 27th March, it acts as a 'Sweetener' to the end of the year exhibition of student work to be held at the College in the summer.

'Sweetener' will showcase the quality and sheer diversity of art, craft and design work produced by the department during the last twelve months. Work will cover the disciplines of Graphics, Textiles, 3D Design Crafts, Fine Art, Media, Film and Animation.

Local people will be given a taste of the artistic talent on their doorstep with an exhibition entitled 'Sweetener' staged by Bedford College staff and students at the BCA Gallery, High Street, and the South Bank Arts Centre from 17-27 March (11am-5pm, free admission).

'Sweetener' will showcase the work of talented artists and give a flavour of Bedford College's annual end of term art and design exhibition to be held at the College's South Bank Arts Centre 14-16 June.

Sue Blackman, Director of Centre for the Arts, explains:

“We are delighted to be working with the BCA gallery on this joint venture for the second year running, bringing art to the heart of the town.  The exhibition will give a taste of talent from Bedford College's South Bank Arts Centre - just a step away from the BCA gallery on the High Street.”

“We want to include people in the work of the Arts Centre and to encourage them to use the space for their own music, dance, theatre, art, media, design and to become part of this creative hub.”

“The South Bank Arts Centre is a community space for the artistic talent of local people. This is the place where people can access or create art, with a buzz of creativity all year round. We have recording studios, theatre and art studios and a variety of space that the local community can hire.”

“The work on display at the 'Sweetener' exhibition reflects the feedback we get from examiners and employers that the quality and standard of student work is extremely high.”

“Our lecturers are practitioners in their fields - working artists, designers and film makers who bring a unique level of industry expertise to the College. This gives our students the knowledge and understanding of the skills employers need to ensure our students are employable and that is what this exhibition reflects.”

The South Bank Arts Centre is reaching out to the community as an inspirational space for artists and those who love the arts.

If you “love arts” you'll love the 'Sweetener' exhibition.
