Bedford College helps to educate the Under 25s about sexual health

Bedford College’s sports lecturer and soccer coach John Guiney has been helping to publicise a campaign promoting advice about Chlamydia - together with footballers from AFC Kempston Rovers.

Footballers raising sexual health awareness

Approximately 1 in 14 people under 25 are infected with Chlamydia and many don’t know they have it, which is why it is so important to be screened regularly.

Sue Burridge, NHS Senior Health Improvement Specialist, said: “We are so pleased to be working in partnership with AFC Kempston on this campaign and welcome other sports teams or any other local groups to contact us if they would like us to come and talk to them about sexual health and Chlamydia screening.”

Of course, you don’t have to be in a sports team or local club to get screened and NHS Bedfordshire has written to 30,000 people aged 18 – 24 inviting them to be screened.

The screening team has also been visiting schools, colleges and nightclubs.

Advice on sexual and other health issues are available from the College’s Student Services team.
