Listen to The Rumor - local band on their way to rock stardom
A local rock band, led by Bedford College
student Lawrence Bray, could be on their way to rock stardom after
winning through in a national music competition.
The Rumor are through to the regional files of
Live and Unsigned, the largest national music competition for
original artists, bands, vocal groups and solo artists, to be held
at The Bedford Corn Exchange on 3 April 2010.
Formed only 5 months ago, the band have
already made a name for themselves with gigs at Esquires, Bedford,
and the Wheatsheaf, Leighton Buzzard and now have gigs booked for
major venues in London.

Lawrence Bray (vocals and lead guitar),
studying Music Technology at Bedford College, talking about the
link between College and stage said:
“The coursework is broken down into business,
performance, theory and sequencing. Each of these sectors is
fundamental to the practical 'on the ground' experience we get from
performing. The course has enabled me to pass on my learning
to other band members to help us professionalise our band and our
plans for where we would like to take The Rumor in the future”.
The band line-up all live in and around the
Ampthill/Aspley Guise area and include Ally Mitchell (rhythm
guitar), Ben MacMillan (bass guitar) and Robbie Mottershead
(drums).
Lawrence and Ally compose and write all their
own material in the style of rock/alt, drawing inspiration from
legends like Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Oasis.
The competition provides a unique opportunity
to perform live in front of some of the country's top producers,
Label executives and promoters and DJs. Competing for over £75,000
worth of prizes including a management and recording contract, over
30,000 acts have auditioned over the last three years.
Auditions take place across the country
culminating in the National Live and Unsigned Festival at London's
O2 with judges including Malcolm Maclaren (The Sex Pistols), Annie
Nightingale (Radio 1) and Dane Bowers (MTV).
Tickets at £7.50 for the regional finals are
available from michelle@mediasavvi.com or
