Art exhibition gives buildings new life
An art
exhibition at Bedford College's South Bank Centre offers the public
an opportunity to see the visionary work of artist Rosalind
Davis.
A mixed media painter and graduate of the
Royal College of Art, Rosalind fuses embroidery, print and paint to
create complex and dystopian landscapes. Her solo show is
entitled “Belong”, taking inspiration from the buildings that bind
us together with their history and purpose.
Rosalind describes the show as “an exhibition
that examines public buildings which hold personal, political and
social meaning to many diverse sections of society and explores
themes of transience and survival, community and isolation.”
As Associate Lecturer in Textiles (HND and
Foundation Degree) at Bedford College, Rosalind enthuses students
with her skill as a working artist and the techniques she uses to
produce unique pieces of art.
Sue Blackman, Director of Centre for the Arts,
said:
“I am delighted to welcome Rosalind Davis and
this fascinating exhibition to the South Bank Arts Centre.”
“Our students have a distinct advantage as
they can tap into the creative talents of Associate Lecturers, such
as Rosalind. As working artists, designers and photographers
they pass on knowledge and skills and give students a unique
perspec
tive.”
“I am keen to encourage local contemporary
artists, including ex students, to use the South Bank Arts Centre
as a launch pad for their talent and careers and a platform to
exhibit their work.”
“This is a living contemporary art space for
the community where they will see a wide range of art including
photography, film, animation, graphic design, fashion and
textiles.”
Rosalind Davis' exhibition “Belong” continues
at the South Bank Arts Centre until the 12th March.
