Hugh ReaSenior Manager (Development Projects)

I have been involved with Bedford College for over 29 years – that’s over half my life so I would say that I am well placed to speak about working here! During those 29 years I have had many different roles, starting as a lecturer moving onto the point where I headed a department and was directly responsible for over 90 people. I now work on specific high level projects for the College.

Probably the best example of how supportive the College is was 9 years ago when I suffered a heart attack and then went through open heart surgery. This resulted in me having nearly six months off work during a two year period. Throughout my recovery, the College were there supporting me to the point where I was able to successfully resume my job once again.

Throughout my time at the College I have had countless training courses, right at the start I did my Certificate of Education (Cert ED) and I have since studied a number of management courses. As the College is such a large organisation with over 850 staff there are always opportunities for progression, there aren’t that many places now where you have a realistic chance of having a job for life but because of the support and the opportunities I have had at the College, I would never think of leaving!
