Advanced Practitioner
I’ve worked at Bedford College for just over
15 years. I was originally employed as a Lecturer and I am now
working in the more senior role of Advanced Practitioner. One of
the things I enjoy about working here is the high degree of
independence bestowed upon you. Whilst the College has many systems
and organisational policies, there is so much scope for operating
as an individual. Seeing students learn, develop and succeed has
also created a high level of job satisfaction.
The supportive nature of the College in terms
of personal professional development is another highlight. Whilst
at the College, I have undertaken a NVQ Level 4 in Training &
Development, and a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Teaching. I have also
been lucky enough to attend inspirational courses and meet
outstanding creatives working within my field. For many
professionals these opportunities are inaccessible due to the harsh
commercial restrictions on time and cost. Progression within the
College goes beyond your job title or role. It’s more about
managing yourself and growing as a person - initiating and sharing
ideas, taking risks and working as a team. These are the attributes
which make this job demanding, rewarding and constantly
changing.
