Opening a bank account
While living in the UK you will probably need
to open a bank account. Many banks request several forms of
identification and proof of address before an account can be
opened.
Student Services can write a letter to confirm
your address for bank account purposes once you have enrolled on
your course. Please request your letter from the Student Services
by calling (+44) (0) 1234 291934. However, please be aware
that during busy periods this can take up to two working days to
prepare.
Working in the UK
If you have a student visa you are expected
under the UK Immigration rules to be able to support yourself in
the UK without working. However, many students are given
permission to work with certain restrictions.
Your passport will indicate whether you are
allowed to work – if you are not sure of your entitlement please
check with UK Immigration or UKCISA.
The majority of students are allowed to work
with the following restrictions:
- a maximum of 10 hours of work per
week during term time
- an unlimited number of hours during
holidays.
