Apply for a Higher Education course

As soon as you have selected your course and checked the fees, you are ready to apply. There are two different application routes – make sure you follow the route listed in the course information:

UCAS Applications

Some of our courses require you to apply through the Universities & Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) online application process. The codes you need to use in your application are shown in the individual course entries. You need to use the correct institution code according to whether you are applying for a Bedford College or University of Bedfordshire course, and the appropriate course code.

UCAS has a points system, known as the UCAS tariff, that converts most qualifications into equivalent points (e.g. an A grade at A-Level is worth 120 points). To enrol on a course you will need to meet a specific points total. Courses can also specify that you have points from certain subjects (e.g. Computing) or a specific grade for a subject including GCSEs. For a complete guide to what qualifications are covered by the tariff visit www.ucas.com.

Applying for an Art & Design course is through the same online application process. Bedford College has a deadline of 24 March 2011. See www.ucas.com for more details.

If you are asked to apply through UCAS, you will need to complete an online application form at www.ucas.com. You should aim to submit your application to UCAS by 15 January 2011 deadline or 24 March for Art & Design courses. However, we can take applications received by UCAS up to 30 June 2011 if there are still vacancies on the course.

Call us on 01234 291000 if you have any queries about your application, quoting your course code, institution code and campus code that are found alongside your course entry.

Direct Applications

If the course entry says ‘direct application’, depending upon the course you choose you will need to apply directly to Bedford College or the University of Bedfordshire (the ‘How to Apply’ section of each course entry will tell you where).

For Bedford College please apply online at www.bedford.ac.uk or you can request an application form by telephone: 01234 291000.

For the University of Bedfordshire, please call 01582 743500.

Course places are offered on a first come, first served basis and many fill up quickly, so please apply early.

Please note: If you are completing a University of Bedfordshire application form you do not need to complete a Bedford College application form as well.

Interviews

Once we have received your application we will give it full consideration and may invite you for an interview. We will write to you to let you know if you have been successful in obtaining a place. Your offer of a place may be conditional upon gaining specific qualifications or meeting other conditions of the application process.

Visa

If you require Student Visa, a Confirmation of Acceptance for Students (CAS) is required, this can be requested when full course fees have been paid and cleared through the College’s account. Please note that it may take 1 week for the college to complete a Confirmation of Acceptance for Students (CAS).

Bedford College has attained a sponsor license for recruitment of Tier 2 (general) and Tier 4 (students), which is now required by law for any institution wishing to recruit from outside the EEA.

The UK Border Agency has issued this licence with immediate effect for general (T2) and with effect from 1 August for students (T4).

The licence is valid for four years, and the licence number is RH6AY0075 and we have Highly Trusted Status.
