This short, three-week English language course
will help you build your general English language skills such as
listening, speaking, reading and writing. This course can help you
to communicate with English speakers, or could be used as a
refresher course if you have not used English for some time. Please
note this course is not suitable for people who want to be English
teachers. A typical student is probably someone who wants to come
to England to study, to work or to be with their family and who
wants to improve their English.
You must be a minimum of
18 years of age. Your language skills will be assessed on entry in
order to ensure that you are placed in a group that is working at
the level you require. However, if you require a student visitor
visa, you will need to complete an assessment task before applying
for the visa. Your English skills will need to be at CEFR level B2
to qualify for this visa.
You will develop:
- Listening
- Speaking
- Reading
- Writing skills
for use in a variety of everyday living, study and work
situations.
On completion of the
three-week course you will gain a Bedford College Certificate of
Attendance.
Possible activities
include:
- Whole group, small group, individual learning
activities; role play and interactive online activities and
games.
- Getting a taste of the local culture through
visits and activities outside the classroom for two afternoons or
one full day per week, including trips to Oxford and
Cambridge.
- Visit to the local Cecil Higgins Gallery,
Bedford Museum and an always entertaining visit to the Mayor's
Parlour in Bedford.
See
English Language Teaching - Bedford College on Facebook for
photos and comments of last year's Summer School.
On completion of the
Summer School course, you may want to enrol on a more substantial
English language course that will prepare you for one of the
University of Cambridge main suite examinations (KET, PET, FCE,
CAE).
