Love Arts exhibition
Bedford College’s “Love Arts Exhibition” opened its doors
to art lovers on 16 June at the College’s South Bank Arts
Centre.
Visitors were given a taste of the artistic
talent on their doorstep with imaginative end of term work by
students from Art, Design and Media. On the opening night
students and staff mingled with visitors to talk about their
innovative ideas for art across a wide spectrum from fine art and
sculpture to graphic design and animation.
Sue Blackman, Director of Centre for the Arts
at Bedford College, said:
“The exhibition celebrates the achievements of
our talented students and their hard work over one or two
years.
“This is the most innovative and creative
exhibition since I have been at the College over 4 years. The
range of art is incredible and we keep going from strength to
strength. We are delighted this year to include an animation
showreel demonstrating the remarkable skills our first year
foundation degree students have achieved in a short period of
time.
“Earlier in the year we held a “Sweetener”
exhibition a the BCA Gallery in Bedford to bring art from Bedford
College to the heart of the town and to give people a flavour of
our end of year exhibition. The theme of ‘Love Arts’ designed
by one of our HND Graphic Design students was used to promote the
exhibition and we have continued with this strong branding to the
end of year show. The number of people at the opening night of the
exhibition reflected the success of that.”
HND Graphic Design students will also exhibit
at the annual D&AD New Blood exhibition in London next
week. This attracts experts from global creative, design and
advertising communities to find the best creative talent on show
from students. It inspires the next generation and can open doors
to opportunities in the creative world.
Sue Blackman added:
“There is tough competition at the D&AD
exhibition with top Universities taking part - we are one of the
few Colleges whose students repeatedly achieve commendation for
their innovative ideas.”
“The D&AD New Blood exhibition attracts
contributors from all over the world with well known designers
providing portfolio surgeries and talent spotting for potential
employees.
“Already two of our students have been spotted
and will be featured in a showcase of the best work at D&AD New
Blood in Digital Arts, a graphic design and illustration
magazine. That is quite an achievement.”
